Recovery Events

A number of successful events celebrating recovery took place during the month of June and, as well as everyone taking part enjoying themselves, a considerable amount of money for service user involvement was raised.

To top off June, Katie Thomson from Norfolk was awarded East of England Recovery Champion. Our congratulations go to Katie on her successes. For more information about Katie's success, visit the News page.

Volunteering

The Matthew Project

The Matthew Project has a well established volunteer programme operating throughout our service. We use volunteers with a range of skills and experience in a variety of roles and offer 2 days of initial training and ongoing training and supervision. Volunteers are required to be 2 years clean and to complete a CRB check. Please contact The Matthew Project to discuss any queries you may have about this.

The Matthew Project also runs a mentor programme in Thetford. Former service users are trained and supported to enhance our work in a variety of ways. Mentors are required to be 6 months clean and to have completed their treatment. They are required to do CRB checks.  They work with groups and running activities such as football, as well as supporting individual service users, taking people to NA and AA meetings and sharing their experience of recovery whenever they get the chance.  We currently have 7 mentors, who are given regular supervision and offered both formal and informal training opportunities.

Visit The Matthew Project website for more details and application forms.

TADS

TADS in Norfolk have started a volunteering programme for clients who have been discharged to help co-facilitate Relapse Prevention Groups and offer targeted support to SUs in service as required.  They have about 4 active volunteers and this has proved enormously successful.

A Volunteer Co-ordinator will be appointed to assist with the development of the volunteering role in TADS and to oversee and support the existing volunteers.  This will be a fixed term - 6 month post initially.

TADS are also looking to enlist Service User Support Volunteers from a pool of clients who are working towards recovery, are stable and want to begin supporting client users who are newly in the system who might need support to get to appointments, or look at resources.  A meeting has been arranged with some interested clients to see how TADS can organise the role and to ensure that there are clear structures in place for support and supervision.  This role has the support of the Trust's Volunteer Co-ordinator who also oversees the Patient Liaison Service (PALS).

Feeling down? Stressed Out? Overwhelmed? Anxious?

For most of us, there are times in our lives when we feel stressed, anxious, depressed, overwhelmed, or find it difficult to cope.

Sometimes these feelings become so overwhelming that they affect our daily lives and prevent us from doing the things we enjoy. You might think that nobody understands you and that nothing can be done, but if you are ready for change then the Wellbeing Service can help you cope using a range of different support options appropriate to your own needs.

You can find details of how to access the Wellbeing Service and more details about what they do and how they could help you on the Wellbeing website, click here for more information.
