Summary
- Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD) is an hallucinogenic drug.
- It comes from 'ergot', a fungus that grows wild on rye and other grasses.
- LSD usually comes in quarter inch squares of paper, often with a picture on one side
- Sometimes LSD is dropped on to sugar cubes or made into tablets or small capsules.
Other names include 
- Acid, trips, tabs, blotters, microdots, dots
- Chemical name - Lysergic acid diethylamide
How is it taken? 
- The squares of paper, sugar cubes, tablets or capsules are swallowed
Effects 
- Effects are known as a 'trip' and can last for up to 8 to 12 hours
- Users will experience their surroundings in a very different way
- Sense of movement and time may speed up or slow down
- Objects, colours and sounds may be distorted
- The effects depend on the user's mood, where they are and who they're with and may be different every time
- Users experience trips differently every time
- Once a trip starts, there's no way of stopping it; it helps to be in a safe, calm environment with someone you trust
- A bad trip can be terrifying. Users may feel very threatened and can even forget that the drug is responsible
- 'Flashbacks' may be experienced where parts of a trip are re-lived some time after the event
- LSD may complicate mental health problems such as depression, anxiety and schizophrenia but also can bring on mental health problems
- Feeling paranoid or out of control can leave users shaken for a long time after using LSD
- Accidents may happen while users are hallucinating
Legal status 
- LSD is a class A drug
- Possession - 7 years prison and/or a fine
- Possession with intent to supply, or supply - life imprisonment and/or a fine
