Family & Friends

Welcome to the Nordat Family and Friends pages.

The impact of substance misuse upon family and friends can be wide-ranging. Parents, carers, spouses, partners, children, siblings, grandparents, extended family members and close friends provide invaluable care and support for current and recovering substance misusers.  These carers and those bereaved by substance misuse may suffer feelings of fear, loss of control, anger, betrayal, guilt, responsibility, shame and isolation.  Dedicated support services are required to help the family and friends of substance misusers to cope with the difficult situations that they find themselves in.

The N-DAP Family and Friends Strategy sets out the way in which N-DAP addresses the needs of the family and friends of substance misusers.

N-DAP’s Family and Friends Drug and Alcohol Information and Support Services leaflet provides information about local organisations that can offer information, advice and support to anyone who is affected by the substance misuse of another.

N-DAP’s Family and Friends Assessment Form and accompanying guidance are for use by professionals assessing family and friends of substance misusers who have asked for support together with a Referral Form which could be used when referring the family and friends of substance misusers to the support services required.

The Matthew Project in Thetford has started a new support group for carers. Take a look at their poster for more information.

For help in West Norfolk please contact the West Norfolk Carers Association for their address and contact details please see the attached flyer.
