Service User Groups
Introduction
At a Service User Day held in March 2007 for the Partnership, facilitated by Jimi Grieve and Anna Millington from the National User Group, a training and development need was identified which led to the creation of a DAAT hosted Service User Engagement Training Sub Group in May 2007 .
The overarching aim of the Service User Engagement Training Sub Group is to guide and support activity that helps to identify training and development needs among service users wishing to be involved in service user groups, advocacy or service development.
Courses identified to date and accessed by members of the group include:-
Assertiveness & Confidence Course
Open College accredited Understanding Befriending L2 course
Royal Inst of Public Health L2 Understanding Health Improvement
Introduction to Commissioning course
Introduction to Presentation Skill
British Sign Language Level 1
Certificate in Higher Education Substance Misuse
Through this group and the training identified it is hoped to enable service user development in order to increase effective participation in the design of treatment services and support of other service users.
The DAAT and other organisations have approached this group to seek the views of service users on a variety of service development matters including the following;
- The Alcohol Strategy; Commissioning Strategy; Harm Reduction Strategy
- The Adult Treatment plan
- The development of the 'Get a Life' manual written by Service Users for Service Users on how to get involved in your Treatment Service.
- The group were consulted by Viv Maskrey of the UEA on the Adult Training Needs Assessment questionnaire.
- The Education, Training and Employment report – the importance of ETE in recovery and the point at which they felt that they started to think about ETE.
