Certificate in Higher Education (Substance Misuse)

congregation 2008-10

12 Students Pass Cert HE 2008-2009

Congratulations to Jamie, Denise, Rachel, Jill, Emma, Teresa, Elizabeth, Elaine, Francesca, Emilia, Katie Jane and Vikki for passing the Cert HE. 9 (pictured here) of the 12 students attended the Congregation Day at the UEA in July to receive their certificates.

Norfolk DAAT and the UEA School of Nursing and Midwifery are now finalising arrangements for the 4th intake for the Certificate in Higher Education (Substance Misuse) starting in September 2010. Closing date for applications and bursary requests is 31st July.

The Certificate in Higher Education Substance Misuse is a full academic award with 120 credit points at level one, and is split into two parts.

Part One is a classroom based Substance Misuse Foundation Course. Part Two is the Substance Misuse 'Work based Learning' Unit.

This 18 month course is equivalent to an NVQ level 4 and as such, is in line with National Treatment Agency, Workforce Development Guidance.

This is an email the DAAT have received regarding the Cert HE which the delegate is pleased to let us share with you.

"I just really wanted to thank you all for your parts in supporting me through the Certificate in Substance Misuse.

The graduation really was a proud moment for me.

On a personal level, I have not done any formal education since school (MANY moons ago!) and always felt like quite a low achiever as a child. I would actually go as far as to say that my family had pretty low expectations of me academically and I lived up to these expectations, ending up going down a very different path to the one which I am on now. Without going into lots of details, it is safe to say that graduating in a cap and gown was the last thing I EVER thought I would do.

On a professional level, it has given me a lot of extra knowledge and experience, and without doubt made me a better practitioner.

Both years were different and equally as interesting. The first year gave me more general information regarding many different substance related topics and the second year helped me to focus on the way I work with my clients.

Completing the course gave me great satisfaction and made my family really proud.

My mum also sends her thanks for getting it funded and giving me the opportunity.

So, once again thank you all for your help and a big hug for Emma for her patience and kindness.'

'Everybody's Business' free online CAMHS Training

Background:
This online course has been developed in order to bring a standard approach to mental health training for workers in tier 1, or universal services.
This national training resource came from an idea by Jane Sedgewick, CAMHS Regional Development Worker for Yorkshire and Humber Care Services Improvement Partnership (CSIP), who is the national lead for the National CAMHS Support Service (NCSS) for tier 1 development. With a grant from the CAMHS workforce programme a workshop was set up to which a large number of people already involved in delivering tier 1 training were invited. The original Everybody’s Business training package resource is based on the combined effort from the workshop attendees, using their considerable experience and ideas.

What you will learn: There are four modules.

What is Mental Health?
How CAMHS are structured
Mental Health Problems & Disorders
What Helps

Pharmacy Postgraduate Educations

The Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education (CPPE) has developed an e-assessment 'Substance use and misuse - delivering pharmacy services', which is designed for both pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. Successful completion of this assessment will allow learners to demonstrate an awareness of the appropriate action to take in different situations related to delivering pharmacy services to substance misuse clients. Please follow the link to login, register and access the learning - www.cppe.ac.uk
